About Lexington

Lexington was founded in 1800 and has long been Oglethorpe County’s seat. The small Georgia city still has its courthouse-town shape, but Shaking Rock Park is the local curveball: a cluster of boulders just off Highway 78 and outside the downtown blocks. U.S. 78, Georgia 22, and Georgia 77 all pass through, putting Athens 17 miles northwest and Washington 25 miles southeast. Lexington is rural Oglethorpe County in a courthouse-and-rocks combination.
