Lexington, TX

Lexington is a Lee County town whose first post office opened in 1848 under the name String Prairie, after the surrounding prairie. The community became Lexington in 1850 and grew around farming, ranching, and the weekly livestock auction barn that has operated continuously since 1938. On Saturdays, cattle trading still gives the town a practical gathering point, while two 1850 log cabins near the square now form the Pioneer Village Museum. Lexington is a Central Texas place with a prairie name, a long-running auction, and an early settlement story preserved in wood.
