Lexington, VA

Tucked into the southern end of the Shenandoah Valley, Lexington is a picturesque college town with around 7,000 residents. It offers a relaxed mountain pace surrounded by sweeping views of the Blue Ridge. The town feels peaceful and tight-knit, yet its spot right along Interstates 81 and 64 makes getting around easy, putting Roanoke about 50 miles south and Charlottesville within an easy day trip.

Much of the local rhythm centers on the walkable historic downtown and the adjoining campuses of Washington and Lee University and Virginia Military Institute. Having two prominent schools in town brings a steady calendar of lectures, arts, and great local restaurants that punch well above the town's small size. On weekends, residents can stroll the Chessie Nature Trail along the Maury River or head out to the countless hiking trails in the surrounding hills.
