Liberty, IN

Liberty sits in Union County near the Ohio line, with a courthouse square that still gives the town its shape. The post office has been operating since 1824, and the downtown Liberty Courthouse Square Historic District includes the courthouse, commercial buildings, and the streets around Union and Market. The current Union County Courthouse dates to 1890, while the Liberty post office building completed in 1938 marks the later end of the district’s historic period. The town also has a separate residential historic district, so there is a clear distinction between the civic center and the surrounding older homes.
