Lincoln, ME

Lincoln is the primary settlement within the Town of Lincoln, a Penobscot County CDP with 2,667 residents in the 2020 census. It grew on the east bank of the Penobscot River around a water-powered sawmill, and the river still gives the center its orientation. Main Street carries town services and small businesses, while the waterfront at West Broadway provides a public boat launch. Rollins Mountain and the surrounding lakes widen the map beyond the built-up core. One of Lincoln's most visible modern stories is local remembrance. A bronze statue of Master Sergeant Gary Gordon, a Medal of Honor recipient killed in Mogadishu, stands at the veterans memorial, and his grave is at Park Street Cemetery.

A downtown mural unveiled in 2024 ties together timber, wildlife, fishing, veterans, lakes, and the region's river-driving past. Put those pieces together and Lincoln reads as a service center in a large northern landscape: Main Street for errands and community business, West Broadway for water access, and the woods and lakes for the wider life of the area.
