Lindsay, TX (City)

Lindsay is a Cooke County city along U.S. 82, five miles west of Gainesville and nine miles east of Muenster, with 1,045 residents in the 2020 census. The Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad reached the area in 1887. Anton and August Flusche organized a German Catholic colony around the line, and Lindsay dates its founding to the first Mass in March 1892; incorporation came in 1959. Farming - especially dairying - and oil production remain part of the local working landscape. St. Peter's Catholic Church, a Texas historic site, still gives the town its clearest cultural center, with Centennial Hall and Conrad Hall nearby for meetings and gatherings.

J.M. Lindsay Park covers 13 acres with a pavilion, playground, walking path, courts, baseball and softball fields, disc golf, and horseshoes. Oktoberfest and the Homecoming Picnic return each year, and Lindsay ISD serves the local school community. Lindsay is a rail-founded North Texas town where a German Catholic settlement still shows up in the church, the farm map, and the fall calendar.
