Linton Hall, VA

Linton Hall is the Census Bureau's name for a 12.73-square-mile unincorporated community in western Prince William County. Its practical map comes from county roads, schools, parks, and destinations with Bristow mailing addresses. Linton Hall School, Braemar Park, and Virginia Railway Express's Broad Run station all use Bristow addresses, so both place names appear in home searches. Address fields may say Bristow even when Census maps place a property inside Linton Hall. The area has no municipal government or incorporated town center; the Census boundary provides a statistical label, while county institutions and overlapping address names supply the everyday points of reference. The name itself comes from an educational campus whose history reaches back to the 1,700-acre Lintonsford farm.

In 1844, Sarah Elliot Linton entered religious life as Sister Baptista and gave her family property to the Benedictines for schools. Benedictine monks opened Saint Joseph's Industrial School in 1894, and the Benedictine Sisters opened Saint Edith's Academy on the property that same year. The Sisters established Linton Hall Military Academy in 1922. It remained an all-male residential school until a day program began in the 1970s, and it became coeducational in 1988. Linton Hall School now serves preschool through eighth grade on a campus of over 50 acres. Its monastery, gardens, labyrinth, paths, and two grain silos keep the former farm legible within an active school campus.

Broad Run station gives this road-oriented community a direct weekday rail connection toward Alexandria and Washington. The station stands on Piper Lane in Bristow at the southern end of VRE's Manassas Line. Under the timetable effective March 16, 2026, morning trains run north through Manassas and Burke Centre to Alexandria; several continue to L'Enfant Plaza and Union Station, while two terminate at Alexandria. Afternoon and evening trains return to Broad Run. The service supports work and institutional trips across Northern Virginia and the District, and the station's Bristow address illustrates how the two local names overlap in practice. Rail is one regional option within a community whose schools, parks, shops, and homes otherwise depend heavily on roads.

County park projects supply gathering places across that dispersed map. Braemar Park received a new playground, courts, parking, and a connecting trail in 2024. Rollins Ford Park, opened in October 2023, occupies 69 acres with fields, courts, dog areas, a farm-themed playground, pavilions, and paths. The Broad Run Scenic Trail remains incomplete: as of 2026, about 3.5 miles of an anticipated seven-mile first phase had been built. Two fiberglass bridges went in behind Victory Elementary in 2012; the 120-foot Broad Run pedestrian bridge and Rocky Branch bridge followed in 2014. Future sections are intended to continue between Nokesville Road and Rollins Ford Park and eventually farther south toward historic county sites. These places offer a clear way to picture Linton Hall: rail at Broad Run, bridges over the stream, and two grain silos beside the school paths.
