Lisbon, OH

Lisbon is Columbiana County’s seat, a village founded in 1803 along Little Beaver Creek. The 2020 census counted 2,597 residents. Baptist minister Lewis Kinney laid out the place as New Lisbon, and the creek, the Sandy and Beaver Canal, and early roads made it a working center for the surrounding farms and iron country. The name later shortened to Lisbon, but the village kept the older county-seat role.

Some of Lisbon’s best local details sit in plain sight. Lepper Library has served the village since 1897, the Morning Journal still carries the town’s newspaper tradition, and the annual Columbiana County Fair dates to 1845. The Little Beaver Creek Greenway Trail begins here, giving the old water route a present-day walking-and-biking version. Lisbon is close enough to Youngstown for a larger regional orbit, but the courthouse, creek, library, fairgrounds, and historic homes keep the village feeling like its own county center today. The creek and courthouse still make that history feel present.
