Little Canada, MN

Located just minutes north of downtown Saint Paul, Little Canada is a compact suburban community with deep French-Canadian roots dating back to the 1840s. Settler Benjamin Gervais gave his name to Lake Gervais and the surrounding parks, which still anchor the city's green spaces today. While it is one of the smaller suburbs in Ramsey County, its location is remarkably convenient. Major arteries like I-35E, I-694, and Highway 36 wrap around the community, making it easy to commute anywhere in the Twin Cities while keeping residential neighborhoods tucked comfortably away from the heaviest traffic.

Everyday errands are straightforward here, with most local dining, shops, medical offices, and bus stops clustered along Rice Street and Little Canada Road. When summer rolls around, the community gathers at Spooner Park for Canadian Days. The long-running annual festival celebrates the town's heritage and its sister-city bond with Thunder Bay, bringing neighbors together for a weekend filled with a community corn feed, carnival rides, live music, a 5K race, fireworks, and a colorful boat parade across Lake Gervais.

For outdoor recreation, locals spend warm afternoons swimming at Gervais Beach, hiking the trails through Nadeau Wildlife Area, or relaxing in neighborhood parks. If you are moving here with school-age children, keep in mind that Little Canada is split between the Roseville and White Bear Lake school districts, so you will want to double-check boundary maps when house hunting. Depending on where you settle, your daily routine might mean a quiet morning overlooking the lake or a quick two-minute jump onto the interstate for your morning drive.
