Little Valley, NY

Little Valley is the Cattaraugus County seat in western New York, a village north of Salamanca in the valley of Little Valley Creek. The county seat moved here from Ellicottville after the railroad gave Little Valley a stronger regional connection, and the village incorporated in 1876. That rail-era decision still shows in the county buildings, older Main Street blocks, and the former railroad corridor that now carries the Pat McGee Trail. The creek name itself is a comparison with a larger Allegheny River tributary nearby.

August brings the Cattaraugus County Fair to the fairgrounds north of the village, while Memorial Park provides a swimming pool, courts, a ball field, and space for everyday recreation. The village’s municipal electric system dates to 1896 and draws hydroelectric power through New York’s public power network. Historic places include the post office, Case Brothers Cutlery buildings, Civil War Memorial Building, and fairgrounds. Little Valley’s present-day map brings county business, fair-season crowds, trail users, and older manufacturing history into one valley.
