Lockesburg, AR

Lockesburg is a quiet, close-knit community of about 600 residents in southwest Arkansas, situated at the junction of Highways 71 and 24. Originally founded in the late 1800s as the county seat, the town has long since settled into a relaxed rural rhythm. Working farms and scenic timberland surround the area, offering plenty of open space while keeping nearby job centers like De Queen an easy drive away.

A handful of local businesses and historic landmarks anchor the town, including the mid-century high school gym now used by UA Cossatot. Lockesburg also holds a unique claim to fame as the home of the Arkansaurus, Arkansas's only native dinosaur fossil, found on a local farm in 1972. With Cossatot River State Park and Pond Creek National Wildlife Refuge just down the road, residents enjoy quick access to great hiking, floating, and fishing.
