Lockland, OH

Lockland is a Hamilton County village in the Mill Creek valley north of Cincinnati, with I-75 cutting through the narrow corridor. The 2020 census counted 3,514 residents. The place grew around the old canal and river-connection idea of linking Lake Erie to the Ohio River, then became an industrial village. Stearns & Foster moved its mattress operations to Lockland in 1880; the original factory and office buildings once dominated downtown, although the complex was demolished after a 2004 fire. Lockland's present-day story has another layer.

Beginning in 2023, a large Mauritanian asylum-seeker community arrived, and 2024 local reporting described pressure on housing, emergency services, and language access as the village adjusted. Lockland Local Schools, village government, I-75, the Mill Creek corridor, and the remaining downtown streets now sit alongside that newer community. The village is small in area, so the history and the current change are physically close: an old factory site, apartment complexes, local businesses, and the interstate share the same compact strip.
