Lockney, TX

Lockney is a Floyd County town on the Llano Estacado, with U.S. 70 running through the grid between Floydada and Plainview. The flat, open country makes the road do a lot of the orienting: southeast takes you to the county seat, northwest toward Plainview, and farm roads fan out around fields and ranch land. Lockney's name is tied to the early settlement story, but the town's present shape comes from the highway, agriculture, schools, and the work of keeping a rural county connected.

Lockney ISD gives the town a recognizable center, with the Longhorns carrying the school name into fall football, basketball, and other calendars. South Plains College serves the wider Floyd County area, while local businesses and town services handle the everyday stops that would otherwise mean a drive to Floydada or Plainview.
