About Lonerock
Lonerock is a Gilliam County city on Lonerock Creek, about twenty miles east of Condon. A post office opened in 1875, and R. G. Robinson and Albert Henshaw founded the town in 1881 before it was platted in 1882. The name refers to a prominent solitary rock near the settlement, which became a landmark for the surrounding ranch country. Lonerock developed as a travel and agricultural service point at the crossroads of local roads. Today its open eastern Oregon setting gathers the creek, grassland, and small-town street grid into a compact community.
