About Long Creek
Long Creek is a Macon County village named for the creek running through its center toward Finley Creek and Lake Decatur. The first settlers arrived from North Carolina in 1828, built log cabins, and worked the surrounding land; a post office and store were in place by 1875, and the village was formally laid out in 1882. U.S. 36 runs along its northern edge, with Decatur to the northwest and Mount Zion southwest. Long Creek is central Illinois where the name, water, and first road lines still line up.
