About Longview

Longview was founded in 1869, incorporated in 1871, and chosen as the Gregg County seat after the county’s creation in 1873. The East Texas city lies where Interstate 20 and U.S. highways 80 and 259 converge north of the Sabine River; its 2020 population was 81,638. A 320-acre downtown cultural district, designated by the Texas Commission on the Arts in 2019, combines museums, parks, live music, theater, restaurants, and historic buildings. The 29-acre Longview Arboretum and Nature Center also opened in 2019.
