Tucked along U.S. Highway 83 in Zapata County, Lopeño is a tiny, quiet South Texas community with fewer than a hundred residents. While its roots trace back to 18th-century Rio Grande settlements, the town was moved to higher ground in the 1950s when the creation of Falcon Lake flooded the original site. Today, it remains a peaceful, close-knit rural spot anchored by a local church and open brush country, offering a slow pace of life right near the reservoir.
