Lost Lake Woods, MI

Lost Lake Woods is a census-designated place and private, member-owned community in Alcona Township, on Michigan's northeastern Lower Peninsula. The 2020 census counted 367 residents. The club was founded in 1926 and controls over 10,000 acres, five lakes, an 18-hole golf course, an 84-site campground, a lodge, and roughly 500 homes. Entry is limited to members and guests, making club membership and shared land the organizing principle.

That private landscape also connects to township services. Alcona's recreation plan notes a fire station on club property, with the township's truck housed there in exchange for fire protection. Members use the lakes and forest for fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, riding, and cross-country skiing, while Alcona Community Schools serve the children who live in the CDP. Outside the gates, Alcona Township stretches to Lake Huron, Huron National Forest, and Negwegon State Park. Lost Lake Woods is a place where a large private club occupies a clear portion of the county's geography and ties its internal facilities to the surrounding township.
