About Lost Nation
Lost Nation is an Ogle County census-designated place south of Oregon, spread across a rural patch of roads, fields, woods, and water. The 2020 census counted 714 residents. Its local address is less a main street than the Lost Nation Road corridor, with Dixon to the southwest and Oregon to the north. Most of the community is in Dixon Unit School District 170, while a smaller section falls in Ashton Community Unit School District 275.
The place’s most visible gathering point is Lost Nation Golf Club, an 18-hole public course on South Lost Nation Road. The course occupies a mix of rolling ground, hardwood and conifer stands, prairie, savanna, and streamside marsh, so it belongs to the Ogle County landscape. The CDP’s homes, school boundaries, and golf course all sit in the same open countryside. Lost Nation is a small rural community with a name that sounds mythical and a very concrete local map of roads, school buses, and fairways.
