Louisburg is a town and the county seat of Franklin County, North Carolina, situated along the Tar River. Established in 1779 and named after King Louis XVI of France, the community of approximately 3,263 is home to the historic Louisburg College—the nation's oldest two-year coeducational college—and is served by Franklin County Schools.
