Lubeck, WV

Wood County’s Lubeck CDP sits within the Parkersburg–Marietta–Vienna metropolitan area. The 2020 census counted 1,309 residents. It began under the name Watertown; in 1856, postmaster Theodore Frederick Henry Slevogt changed it to Lubeck after his German hometown. That small naming story is the clearest historical marker in a place whose present boundaries sit inside the larger Parkersburg area. Wood County’s history lists Lubeck among the communities that grew around Parkersburg, so the name carries both a local origin and a regional connection.

Wood County’s current plan places Lubeck at the US 50/WV 68 interchange, where existing development is primarily residential with neighborhood commercial services. The interchange is Lubeck’s clearest physical center. Those roads connect Lubeck to Parkersburg and the county’s other communities, while the Lubeck Public Service District handles local utility work. US 50 and WV 68 meet the community at its most legible point: a named residential place with its own service district, older German roots, and a close tie to the Ohio Valley’s main roads.
