About Lucerne
Lucerne is a Putnam County village on U.S. 136, with Railway Street and the railroad corridor still visible in the Missouri Department of Transportation's city map. The State Historical Society of Missouri records that Lucerne began in 1887 and was probably named for Lucerne, Ohio, which in turn took its name from the Swiss city. Route, rail, and a layered name give this village a clear place in northern Putnam County.
