About Mabscott

Mabscott is a Raleigh County town whose name grew out of railroad bookkeeping and a family name. The Chesapeake & Ohio Railway first built Beckley Station here, then a new depot took the Mabscott name in 1907. The name honors Mabel Shinn Scott, wife of Cyrus Ellison Scott, a chemist who worked in the coal industry. That rail-and-coal background still gives Mabscott its shape: a West Virginia town that began as a station and became a place of its own.
