Macedonia, IL

Macedonia is a village spanning Franklin and Hamilton Counties, surveyed in 1858 and incorporated in 1894. It served as a support center for agricultural townships along the road between McLeansboro and Benton. Its late-19th- and early-20th-century commercial corridor included general and farm-related stores, a hotel, and other businesses. When State Highway 14 was built about a mile north after World War II, the older corridor contracted to a general store, post office, church, and homes.
