About Machias

Machias is a census-designated place in Snohomish County, where the 2020 census counted 1,264 residents. Charles Niemeyer established a homestead along the Pilchuck River in 1877. The Seattle, Lake Shore and Eastern Railway obtained a right-of-way across the property in 1888, the same year Machias was laid out and named for Machias, Maine. Its post office operated from 1892 until 1943.
