About Magalia

Magalia is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in the foothills of Butte County, California. Originally established during the 1849 Gold Rush as a mining camp named Mountain View, the settlement of approximately 7,389 was nicknamed Dogtown in 1850 due to a local dog breeding business before being renamed Magalia. Public education for the community is served by the Paradise Unified School District.
