Magazine takes its name from the mountain nearby: the city sits about seven miles west of Mount Magazine, Arkansas’s highest point, at the crossing of State Highways 10 and 109. That relationship is more than a naming detail. The mountain sets the horizon, supplies the city’s shorthand, and keeps Magazine tied to the Logan County landscape around it. The town took shape after the Civil War and grew as a stop on the Rock Island Railroad, giving the place an early connection to freight and travelers.

By the mid-twentieth century, Magazine had become a center for livestock, poultry, and dairy production, while smaller rural schools consolidated into the Magazine School District. The district still gives the city an all-ages civic thread, and the Rattler name carries that connection into school sports and activities. Highways bring the broader county through; Mount Magazine keeps the skyline unmistakable. Magazine feels like a mountain-named town that earned its own footing—part crossroads, part farm center, and part school community.
