Makaha, HI

Makaha is a leeward Oahu community in Honolulu County, known for surfing waves and a dramatic mountain-to-ocean setting. It is one of the last towns heading north along the island's leeward side, past more urbanized communities closer to Pearl Harbor and Honolulu. The Hawaii State Department of Education operates public schools serving the area. Makaha feels remote by Oahu standards: sunny, dry, residential, and deeply tied to beach culture, with the Wai'anae Range behind it and the Pacific directly in front.
