About Makaha Valley

Mākaha Valley is a census-designated place in Honolulu County with 198 residents at the 2020 census. It lies on western Oʻahu in the Waiʻanae region, where Mākaha Stream runs through a mountain-framed valley. A state flood study describes the valley’s earlier Hawaiian community as self-sufficient, with the stream supporting life in the upper valley before later land changes. The CDP remains a small settlement whose defining geography is the meeting of stream water, steep valley slopes, and the west Oʻahu coast. Mākaha Valley’s story is carried by the land itself: an old Hawaiian valley that continues as a present-day census place.
