Mallory, WV

Mallory is a Logan County census-designated place stretched along Huff Creek and West Virginia Route 10, about three miles southeast of Man. It is a chain of connected communities: Huff Junction, Mallory, Davin, Mineral City, Claypool, Combs Addition, and Gillman Bottom. The name came from the Mallory Coal Company, and the layout follows the pattern of southern West Virginia coal country, where settlements grew along creeks, roads, and company operations. Huff Creek runs west to Huff Junction and the Guyandotte River, giving the community a natural line toward Man and the county seat at Logan.

Today Route 10 is the practical spine, with bridge crossings and side roads connecting the separate pieces of the CDP. A West Virginia legislative resolution named the bridge over Huff Creek for PFC Donald Ray Cochran, a Mallory-area veteran, putting a local family name onto the route people use every day. The Guyandotte connection also shows why flood, road, and creek conditions matter across the valley. Mallory's local clue is its shape: a coal-company name spread along water, with several small communities sharing one corridor.
