Malott, WA

Malott is a census-designated place on the western bank of the Okanogan River, within Okanogan County's Greater Omak Area. The Malott bridge connects the community to U.S. Route 97, and the river gauge just upstream records conditions at that crossing. L.C. Malott settled here in 1886; the town was established in 1890 and platted in 1909 after serving as a stopover with a hotel. Water has also marked the town's history: a 1938 dam break destroyed much of Malott. As of the 2020 census, Malott had 464 residents, a small population spread along this river corridor and its bridge approach.

The present footprint is compact. A general store, bar, and church provide the visible local stops, while the Okanogan School District supplies the area's public-school connection. Okanogan lies about nine miles northeast, keeping Malott in the same river corridor as the county's larger communities. The bridge is the practical hinge between the settlement's west-bank streets, U.S. 97, and the rest of the Okanogan Valley.
