About Malta

Malta is a DeKalb County village that began in 1855 as Milton, passed through the name Etna, and settled on Malta after the Galena Railway station serving the town. Farming gives the surrounding area its scale, while Kishwaukee College sits just west of the village. The college also marks the first seedling mile of the Lincoln Highway, built in 1914. Malta is northern Illinois with a railroad name, a college just beyond town, and an old road story running past the fields.
