Malvern, OH

Malvern is a Carroll County village with a name that changed as the settlement grew. The area was settled by Moses and Mary Porter in 1806; William Hardesty platted Troy in 1834, and the village was renamed Malvern before incorporating in 1869. Lodi, laid out nearby, was eventually annexed, leaving today’s village with a layered street-and-neighborhood history instead of a single founding moment.

Malvern’s strongest working connection was clay and brick. Plants in the early 1900s made paving brick and other products used in streets and communities far beyond Carroll County, drawing immigrant workers to town. Lake Mohawk is outside the village limits but part of the broader Malvern area, a private lake development created from former farmland in the 1960s. Village Park and its volunteer park board provide a current civic focus, while the Great Trail Joint Fire District serves Malvern and Brown Township. Malvern sits in the Canton–Massillon metro, but its local map still turns on brick, village streets, and the lake country around it.
