Man, WV

Man is a Logan County town at the meeting of the Guyandotte River and Buffalo Creek in southern West Virginia. The 2020 census counted 772 residents. Logan County Schools, town government, local stores and restaurants, the Buffalo Creek Public Service District, and routes through the Guyandotte valley form the immediate service network. The Rockhouse Trail system and the wooded hills around town bring outdoor and working-landscape traffic into the same narrow valley.

The town's name is generally traced to the last syllable of Ulysses Hinchman's surname, a Logan County delegate in the 1860s. Buffalo Creek runs through a long coalfield hollow before reaching Man, and its 1972 dam-collapse flood remains part of the region's public memory. The town's water and sewer systems were later transferred to Buffalo Creek Public Service District, linking infrastructure to the broader creek community. Man now serves as a small Logan County crossroads at the mouth of Buffalo Creek, with schools, public services, valley businesses, and the trails all sharing the same geography.
