About Manila
Manila is a Humboldt County census-designated place beside Humboldt Bay, about two miles north of Eureka, with 798 residents in the 2020 census. The coastal settlement was founded at the end of World War II and named for Manila in the Philippines. Its geography is all about the meeting of bay, beach, and dunes: homes sit beside a long stretch of coastal habitat, with the bay and the Samoa peninsula shaping the wider map. Manila's community center on Peninsula Drive houses Redwood Coast Montessori and a center that hosts local events, supply drives, and help with applications. It also opens onto dune trails and beaches. The Humboldt Coastal Nature Center adds the Stamps Dune House and dune landscape, while Samoa Dunes and Wetlands, Ma-le'l South, and Ma-le'l North continue the protected habitat around the bay. Manila is a small coastal place where the community center and dune access sit on the same daily map.
