Maplesville, AL

Maplesville is a Chilton County town on U.S. 82, roughly midway between Tuscaloosa and Montgomery. The 2020 census counted 637 residents. The first settlement grew near Mulberry Creek about three miles east of the present town, then shifted when railroads put a depot at the current site. The Selma, Rome and Dalton Railroad reached the area in 1850, followed by the Alabama and Tennessee Rivers Railroad in 1853. The depot move left Maplesville's center as a road-and-rail town instead of a creek settlement.

Today the town's municipal life runs through its police and fire departments, utilities board, library, parks, cemeteries, and school connections in Chilton County. Heritage Days and the Christmas parade give the calendar two named local dates, while the old Southern Depot, the Maplesville Railroad Historic District, and Maplesville Methodist Episcopal Church keep the railroad-era story visible. Maplesville is a small town on the U.S. 82 corridor, with its historic buildings and everyday town services sharing the same compact center.
