About Mapleton

Mapleton is a Cass County city of 1,320 residents in the 2020 census, sitting on the Maple River about ten miles east of Fargo-Moorhead. The town was settled in 1870, renamed when its first post office arrived in 1875, and grew with the railroad and the bonanza-farming economy of the 1880s. The river is still the simplest way to orient yourself, with the older city grid and local services gathered around a community that works as a Fargo-area bedroom community. Mapleton’s current rhythm runs through its school, parks, and shared meeting spaces.

Prairie View Park hosts basketball and community events, the Community Center is available for gatherings, and the Mapleton Park Board remains part of local upkeep. The nearby metro supplies the larger regional service and employment orbit, while Mapleton keeps its own small-city layer through the school, local businesses, and the river corridor. The local scoop is a place built from prairie agriculture and rail, now tied to Fargo by distance without losing its own town center.
