Marathon, FL

Marathon is a Florida Keys city spread across islands near the middle of the chain, from the east end of the Seven Mile Bridge toward Tom's Harbor. Incorporated in 1999, it is newer as a city than it feels as a place. The water defines everyday life, from marinas and fishing to the Overseas Highway views. Crane Point preserves one of the Keys' remaining tropical hardwood hammocks, while local wildlife care and boating services give Marathon a working Keys character.
