Marion is a city and the county seat of Williamson County, Illinois, situated in the southern portion of the state. Positioned along Interstate 57, the city of approximately 16,800 serves as the largest retail trade hub in Southern Illinois and grew out of early twentieth-century coal mining operations. The community features the Little Egypt Arts Gallery and is served by Marion Community Unit School District 2.
