Marion is a city and the county seat of McDowell County, North Carolina, situated in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Founded in 1844 and named for Revolutionary War General Francis Marion, the community of approximately 7,579 is served by the McDowell County Schools district for public primary and secondary education.
