About Marion
Marion is the county seat of Marion County, north of Columbus, with a history tied to railroads, industry, and presidential politics. Laid out in 1822 and named for Revolutionary War general Francis Marion, the city later became the home base of Warren G. Harding, whose front-porch campaign brought visitors to hear him speak. Marion has older neighborhoods, local manufacturing, county government, and cultural venues such as the Palace Theatre and May Pavilion. It is a small Ohio city with a very specific political and industrial past.
