About Marshall

Marshall is the Searcy County seat and market town on U.S. Highway 65 in north-central Arkansas. The city sits near the Buffalo National River and the Tyler Bend Visitor Center, with the Ozark National Forest and cattle country filling the wider map. County government, schools, retail, and outdoor tourism all meet here, so Marshall serves both residents and travelers heading toward the river. The Buffalo River Historic Jail and Museum, one block off the town square, keeps a local piece of that county history in an old building.

Marshall also carries a very specific food tradition. The annual Chocolate Roll Festival began in 2012 as a Marshall High School Art Club fundraiser and now includes a world champion contest for the Searcy County pastry. The high school, county offices, airport, and town square give the city a civic center, while camping, floating, hiking, bicycling, and dark-sky viewing send people outward into the hills and river country. Marshall is an Arkansas county seat with a courthouse role, a homemade dessert, and a national river close by.
