Martins Creek, PA

Martins Creek is a census-designated place in Lower Mount Bethel Township, Northampton County, along the creek that gives the community its name. The 2020 census counted 664 residents. The township is part of the Lehigh Valley but remains relatively rural, with Martins Creek roads, farm parcels, open space, and the Delaware River shaping the local geography. Township offices, volunteer fire services, and regional schools handle the everyday map, while Easton and Bangor supply more shopping, medical care, and employment options.

The area’s recorded settlement reaches back to the 1730s, when Alexander Hunter and James Martin were among the Scotch-Irish families farming here. Bethel Church and the Hunter-Martin Settlement Museum keep that early history close by. Martins Creek later picked up quarrying and cement work, industries that changed the township’s roads and housing before the plants closed. Today the creek and old settlement names are still the best guide to the place: this is a small village community inside a larger township, with the Lehigh Valley close but not fully defining its daily rhythm.
