Martinsburg, PA

Martinsburg is a borough in Blair County’s Morrisons Cove, about 15 miles south of Altoona. The borough is thought to be named for pioneer John Martin and is the oldest continuously incorporated borough in Blair County. By 1850 it had churches and businesses, followed later by a bank, newspaper, and cemetery association. That history still sits behind a functioning borough center, with the borough building, Town Center District, emergency medical station, and municipal services arranged along the older street grid. The surrounding cove remains agricultural: Spring Cove School District describes dairy farms, orchards, and farm-related industries across the district, while Routes 36, 164, 866, 867, and I-99 connect the area to Altoona and the wider region. Many residents work in nearby Hollidaysburg or Altoona. Martinsburg’s daily geography is a mix of borough institutions, cove farming, and roads that lead out to the larger centers nearby.
