Maryville, TN

Maryville sits in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, just south of Knoxville and directly bordering Alcoa. Pistol Creek winds straight through the center of town, anchoring the Bicentennial Greenbelt and Jack Greene Park before connecting to the Maryville-Alcoa Greenway. That paved trail system stretches for over 18 miles, making it easy to bike, walk the dog, or jog between parks, neighborhoods, and neighboring Alcoa. Downtown Maryville centers around Broadway Avenue, where you will find local shops, independent restaurants, and county offices set in a walkable, small-town atmosphere.

Settled in the late 1700s around Fort Craig, the town grew up along the creek and has maintained a strong connection to its history. Maryville College, founded in 1819, adds a distinct college-town feel to the community. Its wooded campus sits between downtown and Lamar Alexander Parkway, bringing shaded walking paths and roughly 1,200 undergraduate students to the area. The college also houses the Clayton Center for the Arts, a modern venue with a 1,092-seat main hall and multiple galleries that host touring musicians, local theater productions, dance recitals, and art exhibits throughout the year.

For employment, Maryville has a sturdy local economy that keeps many residents from needing a daily commute into Knoxville. Major employers span advanced manufacturing, healthcare, and corporate headquarters, including automotive supplier DENSO, Clayton Homes, and Blount Memorial Hospital. Smith & Wesson also runs its national headquarters and production campus here along Proffitt Springs Road. Most of these large employers sit along outer highway corridors, keeping industrial traffic well separated from downtown and the surrounding residential subdivisions.

Community amenities are well organized thanks to a joint parks and recreation department shared across Maryville, Alcoa, and Blount County. The system manages neighborhood parks, public swimming pools, sports complexes, and community centers throughout the area. On Saturdays from spring through autumn, residents head downtown to Founder's Square for the Maryville Farmers' Market to shop for local produce, meats, and baked goods. Nearby on North Cusick Street, the Blount County Public Library serves as an everyday community hub with story hours, study rooms, book clubs, and family workshops.
