About Mayfield
Mayfield is a Fulton County town on the southwestern shore of Great Sacandaga Lake, with most of its land inside Adirondack Park. The town’s history reaches back to the Mayfield Patent and the old settlements around Riceville; Oliver Rice, a Revolutionary War veteran and businessman, began the Rice Homestead as a log cabin in 1790 and expanded it as a house in 1810. Water changed Mayfield’s map again in 1930, when the Great Sacandaga Lake project took roughly six square miles of private land. Mayfield is Adirondack country with a lake-made boundary, a Revolutionary-era house, and a history that keeps showing up in the side roads.
