Maysville, OK

Maysville is a Garvin-McClain county-line town in the Washita River valley, and its history starts with a name that sounds more like a cattle stop: Beef Creek. The El Paso Stage Company built a station here in 1871, David Mays arrived in 1872, and a post office opened at Beef Creek Station in 1878. When the Kiowa, Chickasha and Fort Smith Railway reached the area in 1901, the depot went a mile north and the whole town followed; the post office adopted Maysville in 1902. State Highway 19 runs through the center, while a northern exclave wraps around Wiley Post Memorial Reservoir and the aviator's family connection gives the town another local landmark.
