About McCammon

McCammon is a Bannock County city whose name arrived with the railroad. In 1882, the Oregon Short Line built a standard-gauge line from Pocatello toward Port Neuf and established a depot at the settlement, which the railroad renamed McCammon after J. H. McCammon, a railroad official. By 1892, the place was a junction for the Oregon Short Line and Utah & Northern, earning the nickname Junction City, and it incorporated as a village in 1908. McCammon is now part of the Pocatello metropolitan area, but the rail junction still accounts for why it is on the map. It is a small railroad town with a depot-era name and a city government that grew out of the tracks.
