McMinnville, OR

McMinnville is one of the most character-rich towns in the Willamette Valley, blending a historic college town vibe with world-class wine country living. Sitting at the base of the Coast Range with around 35,000 residents, it serves as the county seat and cultural hub for Yamhill County. You get open farmland and rolling vineyards right at the edge of town, plus a few quirky claims to fame, from the massive wooden Spruce Goose at the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum to Linfield University's beautiful, tree-filled campus just south of downtown.

Daily life revolves around Historic Third Street, a walkable downtown filled with farm-to-table restaurants, indie shops, and tasting rooms under leafy canopy trees. A few blocks over, City Park offers shaded walking trails along Cozine Creek, playgrounds, and the local aquatic center. Getting around is straightforward, with Highway 99W running straight through town toward Portland and Highway 18 offering a direct route out to the Oregon Coast. There is always something happening to bring neighbors together throughout the year. Downtown hosts regular farmers markets, wine walks, and summer concerts, while Linfield adds college athletics and guest lectures to the calendar. The biggest weekend of the year arrives every May with the McMenamins UFO Festival, which celebrates local 1950s UFO sightings with a huge costume parade, alien pet contests, and live entertainment that takes over Third Street.
