McVille, ND

With a population of around 360, McVille is a quiet Nelson County community with deep agricultural roots. Founded in 1906 when the railroad expanded through the area, the town got its name from the McDougall family and the cluster of early settlers whose surnames started with "Mc." While it began as a classic prairie rail stop with a grain elevator and a general store, it has settled into a friendly, peaceful hometown where neighbors look out for one another.

For a small town, McVille covers the everyday essentials surprisingly well, offering local healthcare facilities, emergency services, a community library, and a senior center. Families are part of the Dakota Prairie School District, with elementary grades attending school right in town and older students traveling a few miles to nearby Petersburg. Outdoor life centers around the McVille Dam on the east edge of town, a favorite local spot for camping, fishing, swimming, and disc golf. With a nine-hole golf course, paved bike path, and community ballfields also in the mix, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the open air.
